Artist's Statement

Melissa Jayne specialises in figurative art, predominantly feminine paintings which capture the elements of the human form. Particular attention is paid to a woman’s back and her work has been described as dynamic and strong yet feminine. Melissa Jayne studied Fine Art at A level and has since painted as a hobby until she was inspired again by the fashion world. Melissa Jayne is inspired by artists such as Klimt, Edgar Degas and Anna Razumovskaya and uses the world of fashion to bring her paintings alive through backless dresses, colours and bold charcoal fluid strokes to create a sense of motion and elegance. Melissa Jayne received special recognition in the Light, Space & Time’s 2013 Figurative Art competition for outstanding art, demonstrating the uniqueness and familiarity of her art.
