Artist's Statement
Light, Form, Topography and Environment
Much of my work with the glass has taken advantage of the fluid qualities of the glass and its interaction with light. The latest sculptures have combined glass with various metals, stone, and sometimes wood or found objects. I derive much of my inspiration from walking in and observing the garden, forest, bluffs and hills surrounding my home and studio. Sometimes landscapes visited or environments experienced in other places inspire my work. And some of my works make statements about environmental concerns.

The latest sculptures have combined glass with various metals, stone, and sometimes wood or found objects. This direct relationship between environment and man is reflected in my work by application of heat, gravity, deposition, and erosion through the processes of hot, warm, and cold glass work. Metal and stone work involve the processes of welding, fabricating, forging, cutting, carving, and polishing. These ever evolving process, over a period of time create and reveal the inherent history within each unique piece. The artwork is abstract enough that viewers can bring their own experiences to the work and make their own interpretations about what the work is about. I see no need to replicate nature, but prefer to interpret and reimagine.
